Game Elements

Image
This week I read into different game elements.  Firstly, I was really interested in learning about the motive behind Objectives / Goals within games. It is very important, in my opinion, to read into this. Every game must have a goal at the end of it, otherwise why would the player bother playing? It was interesting noting the different objectives that can keep a player engaged such as capturing, destroying, collection, solving, chase, or race!  I read more into this here . This is an interesting read which goes further into detail about all the goals to consider when designing a game.  I also learned about critical analysis. Which is more of a non-biased critical look at the game instead of a "fault-finding" look at it. This read taught me how to analyse a game and give feedback. I will now ask myself questions such as "How is the play of the game?" and "Do the games working parts fit together?" Game Development on Unity   Secondly, I read an academic p

Feedback Thoughts

This week I read two articles on feedback.  The first article I read was Neil Gaiman 's advice on a creative life. In the article I learned about how Gaiman has a different way of looking at mistakes. A good way! It was interesting to think about mistakes as being a tool in our lives to help us move forward and learn. I feel like from such a young age we are taught that making a mistake is a very bad thing, it's something you are worried about doing, feeling like you'll be judged.  Neil has a great way of injecting the idea into our mind that making a mistake is a powerful step in life. I actually wish this read was a bit longer, but it leaves me interested to search more into Neil Gaiman and into his way of thinking. His beliefs are something that I'm very intrigued by. ~ Neil Gaiman The second article I read was How to Get Past Negativity Bias . The article was written by Katrina Schwartz, a journalist from San Francisco who works for MindShift who explore the future

Game Brainstorm

In this blog post I will be talking through 4 game ideas that I would like to execute. As a child I grew up playing so many games with my brothers outdoors, so I'm going to take all my inspiration from my memories of fun times growing up. I think this will make my games original, and they will have more meaning to me. Hope you enjoy!  Game One For game one I drew my inspiration from my childhood memory of growing up on the River Shannon. Every summer I spent 3 months on my fathers boat on the River Shannon around Leitrim and sometimes we would travel all the way down to Galway on the boat.  After doing the Unity Tutorials with the vehicle I thought of a cool game idea. The idea is that the player view would be behind a speedboat which is speeding through the river and the player controls the boat by moving side to side, dodging obstacles such as markers and buoys on the river and jumping over ramps. I looked for other games like this on the market and found this game: https://www.

Assignment First Impressions

Well to say that was a busy week was an understatement. I won't lie and say this online learning is easy, for me it's definitely a learning curve. I'm usually most comfortable when I have someone show me exactly what to do and then I'll have no problem going forward. It's not as straight forward this year, but that's not a bad thing! (Here's my growth mindset coming into play) There's always a helping hand With regards to this module, I love the class website. I think it's a fantastic way to start the online learning. I know myself that this structure works extremely well for me. The Semester Calendar section has it all drawn out for us what we need to be doing each week, I feel like all other modules should have this kind of structure. It also releases the pressure on the lecturer as he won't have to explain to 80 odd students what to do if they all email him separately. We just have to refer to the website! So easy and efficient. 10/10. Would

Growth Mindset - A LEARNING CURVE

Image
For part of my week 2 tasks, I had to dive into the differences between fixed and growth mindsets. I was so happy to see this as part of the tasks for this week because this is something I had read into before. Last year in my acting course, it was almost drilled into us that making mistakes is NOT A BAD THING and is actually a good thing.  For example, from a young age I was taught that going to auditions and not getting the part, is not a bad thing! It's all about experiences, and there's so many factors that come into play. Instead I was told that every failed audition is a learning curve towards the right audition and that a "No" now, is because a better "Yes" is coming! (One of my favourite sayings!)  A really interesting read on this below: https://actingcoachscotland.co.uk/blog/developing-mindset-acting-success/ I do still believe that in some parts of my life I still have a fixed mindset. For example, with regards to materialistic things like money

Introduction - Who is Robyn Trout?

Well, starting with the basics, I'm a 20 year old born and raised in Dublin, studying Creative Digital Media in TUD Blanchardstown! Before this course I studied in Bow Street Academy of Screen Acting, as acting is what I do with my spare time. I've been acting since a very young age, appearing in many recent commercials, documentaries, and short films! I love acting.  Here's a still from a scene I showcased in The Lighthouse Cinema! When I'm not acting, you might find me singing and playing guitar. Like acting, I've been singing and playing music since a young age. Some of my favourite music includes hits like Stairway to Heaven by Led Zeppelin, Sultans of Swing by Dire Straits, and Hurricane by Bob Dylan. Don't let that fool you, I'm also really into rap music, I love Dave, Eminem, Cardi B.. and all the rest really! My music playlists would definitely confuse you, from country, to rap, to 70's music.. I love it all!  Dire Straits Album Cover I also rea
